OUR TEAM

The three "leaves" that adorn the S in STEM represent our three serivce sectors: Higher Education, Private Industry, and Government Agencies.

The STEMsolutions team is a diverse mix of educators, industry professionals, innovation experts, evaluators, and project managers.  We rely on a large network of subject matter experts and trainers to ensure that our clients receive the attention that they need to meet their goals.



STEMsolutions has been involved in the development of STEM initiatives that represent over $30M in funding from the National Science Foundation, The Department of

Labor, the Helmsley Charitable Trust, and

the National Institutes of Health.

James Hewlett currently serves at the Director of Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing at Finger Lakes Community College. In addition to teaching, he has served as the New York Hub Director of the Northeast Biomanufacturing Center and Collaborative (NBC2), and is the Executive Director of the Community College Undergraduate Research Initiative (CCURI) -- a $5.7M National project aimed at bringing the undergraduate research experience to our Nation's two-year science programs. He is a Co-PI on InnovATE BIO, the National Center for Biotechnology Education where he leads the student research hub.

 

He serves on the Editorial Board of The American Society of Cell Biology's CBE Life Sciences Education journal, and the Journal of Advanced Technological Education (JATE). He has served on the Advisory Board for Rochester Institute of Technology's Center for Bioscience Education and Technology (CBET) and is a member of the Steering Committee for the University of Georgia's RCN-UBE Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experiences Network (CUREnet). Jim’s dedication towards the spreading of undergraduate research is evident with national CCURI’s success....Jim skillfully helped my team form an action plan that ultimately lead to the development of an undergraduate research program at Massasoit Community College.

Jim has served dutifully in the external evaluator role

for my NSF Advanced Technical Education grant for

several years. He has consistently provided insightful

and well-designed evaluation instruments for our student and faculty training sessions, and board meetings.

Jim views our project with a keen eye for existing and emerging trends in biotechnology, higher education

and nationally-recognized skills training programs. He has a can-do attitude and makes things happen!
